Spring Lake Girls Cross Country Runner-Up at Regionals, Advances to Seventh Straight State Finals The Spring Lake girls cross country team continued its tradition of excellence with a runner-up finish at the Division 2 regional meet, scoring 91 points to secure their seventh consecutive trip to the state finals. The Lakers’ mix of veteran leadership and emerging talent proved key in a strong showing behind regional champion Cadillac (57). Senior Alexis Kotkowicz led the way with a fifth-place finish in 18:21.2, setting a new personal record in her final regional race. Sophomore Kaleigh Clark followed in 10th place at 19:15.2, marking a season-best performance, while junior Cora Parker finished 16th in 19:35.4, also a season record. Freshman Charly Braidwood delivered a standout postseason debut, placing 27th in 20:25.4 (PR), and sophomore Briella Kohley rounded out the scoring five in 33rd at 20:49.1 (SR). Freshman Matia Battjes (44th, 21:13.6) and senior Meghan Guczwa (47th, 21:29.4) provided valuable depth, with all seven Lakers earning state qualifying marks. Spring Lake’s consistent pack running and depth were on full display, with the Lakers placing all five scoring runners in the top 33 overall. The team now turns its focus to the MHSAA Division 2 State Finals at Michigan International Speedway, where they’ll aim to continue their streak of strong performances on the state’s biggest stage.
