Lakers Sweep Home Double Dual with Strong Team Effort The Spring Lake varsity volleyball team delivered a pair of quality wins on its home court Wednesday night, defeating Newaygo and Coopersville in front of an energetic Laker crowd. The victories showcased the team’s steady improvement and growing confidence as the regular season winds down. The Lakers opened the night with a hard-fought four-set win over Newaygo (25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 25-13), displaying consistent passing and balanced offense throughout the match. Spring Lake then carried that momentum into its second matchup, rallying after a first-set loss to top Coopersville in another four-set battle (18-25, 25-7, 25-23, 25-19). It was an all-around team performance for the Lakers, with several players contributing in key areas: Lauren Meigs turned in an outstanding night with 28 kills, 6 aces, and 2 blocks. Rileigh Fortuna was a force on both sides of the net, recording 16 kills, 3 blocks, and 29 assists. Abbey Rogalski added 15 kills and 2 blocks. Ashlynn O’Donnell ran the offense with 42 assists and 5 aces. Defensively, Zoe Winters and Brooke St. George anchored the back row with 35 digs each, while Selah Kobylak chipped in 26 digs and 4 aces. Abbi Kozal added 2 blocks in the middle to round out a strong team effort. The coaching staff praised the Lakers for continuing to build momentum, noting that the team’s hard work over the past few weeks is starting to show in their play. “We’ve been improving steadily, but tonight we finally had the results to show for it,” they said. “Our energy, communication, and composure really stood out.” Spring Lake (9-15-2, 1-8 OK-Blue) will look to keep the momentum going when they travel to Zeeland East on Tuesday, October 21 for another key conference matchup.
