Volleyball (Girls JV) Scores

The Lakers hosted a JV Invitational on Saturday and came out victorious winning the Gold Bracket in 3 sets against Kalamazoo Premier who they had lost to earlier in the day in pool play. In pool play the Lakers beat North Point Christian (25-17, 25-19) split with Plainwell (25-17, 14-25) and lost to Kalamazoo Premier (27-29, 21-25). We came out 2nd in our pool and played Caledonia in the first round of bracket play and beat them with the scores of 25-15, 25-20. The finals found us playing Kalamazoo Premier again and the Lakers came out on top with a 3 set win with the scores of 25-22, 12-25, 15-7. We ended the day with a 3-1-1 record and a 1st place trophy for the Gold Bracket. The Lakers had many stat leaders on the day and all players contributed to this successful team win. The Lakers were led offensively by Natalie VanLoo (27 kills), Tessa Weber (14 kills), Simer Baria (14 kills) and Calla Barber (10 kills). The team served strong and had multiple players with many service aces: Avery Turbett (9 aces), Abbie Andree (6 aces), and Elisa Schulze (5 aces). All of our defensive players stats were impressive: Avery Turbett (52 digs), Kristen Marine (42 digs), Harper Bennett (35 digs), and Emma Canale (17digs). Sierra Lukas led the team in assists with 39 and Kellen Armey had 23 assists. Melanie Goetzinger led the team in blocking with 9 total blocks and had 10 kills. Our overall record is now 8-10-1. Our next match is on Tuesday, September 23rd at Holland @ 5 pm.
