Lakers Push State-Ranked Zeeland East in Conference Battle The Spring Lake varsity volleyball team showed determination and grit Thursday night, taking the opening set from Zeeland East—an honorable mention in the Division 1 state rankings—before the Chix regrouped to claim a four-set victory (25-23, 14-25, 7-25, 19-25). The Lakers came out firing in set one, matching Zeeland East point for point before pulling out a thrilling 25-23 win to grab early momentum. While the Chix’s offensive firepower took control in the middle sets, Spring Lake refused to back down, battling through every rally and keeping the pressure on in the fourth set. Several Lakers made key contributions in the match: Brooke St. George led the attack with 8 kills and added 12 digs. Abbey Rogalski and Peyton Hein each tallied 6 kills, with Rogalski also chipping in 2 blocks. Ashlynn O’Donnell and Rileigh Fortuna kept the offense moving with 15 and 11 assists, respectively. Defensively, Zoe Winters anchored the back row with 13 digs and 2 aces, while Sage Horton and Lauren Meigs each served up an ace. The coaching staff praised the team’s toughness and energy, especially the way they opened the match with confidence against one of the area’s top programs. The Lakers continued to show growth and resilience in a challenging stretch of conference play. Spring Lake (3-9-2, 0-4 OK-Blue) will look to build on their momentum when they travel to Holland on Tuesday, September 23 for their next conference matchup.
