Spring Lake Middle School Cross Country Kicks Off Season with Strong Team Finishes The Spring Lake middle school cross country teams opened their season with an encouraging start, competing against a deep field of area schools in both the boys’ and girls’ races. The Lakers came away with top-four team finishes on both sides, setting a strong tone for the season ahead. Boys Race The Spring Lake boys earned third place with 82 points, trailing only Holland Christian (27) and Grand Haven Lakeshore (72). Seventh-grader Remy Tiles led the charge for the Lakers, racing to an impressive runner-up finish in 12:12.77. Close behind, Malcom Oosting-Sineath (13th, 12:40.18), Grant Ennis (18th, 13:11.87), Cline Morgan (27th, 13:51.94), and Henry Wierzbicki (36th, 14:02.27) rounded out the team’s scoring. The strong pack effort lifted Spring Lake above larger programs, demonstrating early-season depth and promise. Girls Race The Laker girls also impressed, finishing fourth overall with 103 points, just behind Holland (93) and ahead of East Rockford (108). Eighth-grader Evelyn Goosen turned in a standout performance, placing second overall with a time of 12:44.82. She was supported by strong finishes from Abigail Cooper (10th, 14:01.19), Evie McCormick (24th, 14:40.02), Anna Wierzbicki (42nd, 15:51.97), and Breeze Hunt (45th, 16:00.95). The Lakers’ blend of upperclass leadership and younger talent showed encouraging balance for the season. Looking Ahead With both the boys and girls teams earning top-four finishes to start the year, the Lakers built a foundation of confidence and momentum. Many athletes gained valuable racing experience, while early standout performances highlight the potential for even bigger results as the season progresses.
