Lakers Show Fight in League Opener Against Hamilton The Spring Lake varsity volleyball team opened OK-Blue Conference play last Thursday with a competitive four-set battle against Hamilton. The Lakers pushed the Hawkeyes throughout the night before falling 16-25, 24-26, 25-22, 20-25. After dropping the first two sets, Spring Lake regrouped and responded with an impressive third set win, showing the kind of energy and execution that makes them tough to beat. The Lakers continued to pressure Hamilton in the fourth, keeping the score close before the Hawkeyes edged out the victory. Several Lakers turned in strong individual performances: Abbey Rogalski led the offense with 14 kills and added 5 blocks at the net. Lauren Meigs had a breakout night with 9 kills, 5 aces, and 4 blocks. Rileigh Fortuna filled the stat sheet with 7 kills, 18 assists, 12 digs, and 4 blocks. Ashlynn O’Donnell guided the attack with 13 assists. Zoe Winters anchored the defense with 14 digs, supported by Sage Horton (11 digs) and Fortuna (12 digs). Despite the loss, the Lakers took away valuable lessons about consistency and execution in league play. When their passing clicked, the Spring Lake offense proved difficult to stop—something the team looks to build on moving forward. Spring Lake (1-2-2, 0-1 OK-Blue) returns to action on Saturday, September 6, when they host their first Laker 3-out-of-5 Quad beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Lakers will welcome Hart, Allendale, and Livonia Stevenson in what promises to be another exciting day of volleyball.
