Lakers Battle Through Competitive Quad at Home The Spring Lake varsity volleyball team showed grit and flashes of dominance on Saturday, going head-to-head with strong competition in their first “Laker 3 out of 5 Quad.” The Lakers earned a decisive victory over Hart before taking tightly contested matches with Allendale and Livonia Stevenson. Spring Lake opened the day on a high note, sweeping Hart in straight sets (27-25, 25-15, 25-19). The Lakers controlled the net and served aggressively, setting the tone for the rest of the day. Against Allendale, the Lakers were in every set but fell just short in a tight three-set match (23-25, 16-25, 22-25). The team then battled Livonia Stevenson through four sets, capturing the first set 25-22 and playing competitive volleyball throughout, but ultimately came up short (25-22, 19-25, 11-25, 14-25). Despite the setbacks, the Lakers saw several standout performances across the board. Abbey Rogalski was a force at the net, recording 29 kills and 7 blocks. Brooke St. George added 27 kills of her own, while Rileigh Fortuna chipped in 17 kills and set up her teammates with 41 assists and 4 aces. Ashlyn O’Donnell sparked the attack with 31 assists and 3 aces. Madi Hartman served tough, delivering 5 aces. Defensively, the Lakers dug deep with Zoe Winters collecting 51 digs, Sage Horton adding 34, and Selah Kobylak contributing 21. Abbi Kozal was strong at the net as well, tallying 6 blocks. Head coach noted that consistency remains the biggest focus for the group, as the Lakers have already shown they can compete with anyone when they’re in rhythm. Spring Lake (2-5-2, 0-1 OK-Blue) will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 9, when they host Zeeland West in a conference matchup.
