Girls Cross Country wins Mel Hall Invitational

The Spring Lake High School girls' cross country team claimed a commanding victory at the 2024 Coach Mel Hall Memorial Invitational, showcasing both talent and depth as they raced to first place on their home course. Leading the charge was junior Alexis Kotkowicz, who secured the overall win with an impressive time of 19:35.43. Freshman Kaleigh Clark followed with a strong fourth-place finish, clocking in at 20:10.21. Sophomore Cora Parker (20:37.41), senior Lexie Ruffing (20:39.13), and junior Meghan Guczwa (20:45.89) rounded out the top five, all placing within the top 10 overall to secure the team victory. Notable individual achievements included personal records (PR) by freshman Lucy DeBoer (25:33.67), freshman Ella Nielson (26:20.84), freshman Violet Belanger (26:31.33), sophomore Kyleigh Chittenden (27:19.24), and sophomore Myra Babcock (27:34.94). These standout performances contributed to the team's overall success and added to the celebratory atmosphere of the day. The Lakers now set their sights on the postseason, as they head to Benzie Central High School this Friday to compete in the regional championship meet.
