Spring Lake Varsity Volleyball loses close to Fremont, but sweeps Ludington

The Spring Lake varsity volleyball team had a mixed night in their home double duel, falling to Fremont in a five-set battle, 25-17, 25-27, 25-22, 21-25, 15-9, but bouncing back with a dominant sweep over Ludington, 25-20, 25-17, 25-16. The Lakers now hold an overall record of 4-13, with a 1-4 standing in conference play. Katherine Penning led the offensive charge with 26 kills and 6 aces, while Brooke St. George added 17 kills and Brianna Kirby contributed 12 kills and 5 aces. Peyton Hein kept the offense flowing with an impressive 66 assists over the course of the night. On defense, Lauren Nicles led with 27 digs, followed by Hein with 18 and Madeline Meigs with 13. Aliya Williams was a force at the net, recording 4 blocks. The match against Fremont was a close, hard-fought contest that went to five sets, with Spring Lake finding their rhythm in the middle of the match but falling just short in the deciding set. In the second match against Ludington, tough serving made the difference, allowing the Lakers to cruise to a three-set victory. Spring Lake will look to build on their performance this weekend as they host a 3/5 quad on Saturday, September 28, featuring Livonia Stevenson, Charlotte, and Plainwell.
