Spring Lake swim dominates Home Invitational

The Spring Lake girls swim team put on an outstanding performance at their home invitational, securing a dominant victory over the competition. With exceptional individual and relay efforts, the Lakers showcased both personal and season bests throughout the event. The team kicked off with a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (2:00.86), led by Ellie Adams, Sadie Vander Heide, Alana Mazurek, and Sophia Meyers. This strong start set the tone for a day full of remarkable results. In the 200 Free, junior Sophia Meyers claimed first with a time of 2:09.18, followed by senior Rachael Brower in third with a personal best of 2:17.23. Senior Callie Rantanen and freshman Kalena LaRock also set personal bests in this event. Junior Ellie Adams continued to impress, finishing first in the 200 IM (2:21.0), while senior Abigail Weis and junior Karley Cough achieved personal bests as they placed third and sixth, respectively. The 50 Free event was another highlight, with senior Hannah Brown swimming a season-best time of 24.6 to claim first place. Junior Alex Botbyl finished second with her own season-best, and senior Alana Mazurek took fourth. Sophomore Macy Subka and junior Lyla Quiney also swam personal bests. Adams continued her winning streak with a first-place finish in the 100 Fly (1:02.97), and Brown dominated the 100 Free with a season-best 56.11, followed by Botbyl in third with a personal best. In the 500 Free, Meyers secured another first-place finish with a time of 5:55.67, and sophomore Bella Vandermeer clocked a personal best in fifth. Spring Lake's relay teams continued their success with a victory in the 200 Free Relay (1:46.08), featuring Brown, Botbyl, Subka, and Mazurek. The Lakers closed the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 Free Relay (3:57.75), thanks to Adams, Botbyl, Meyers, and Brown. The team also saw strong individual performances in the 100 Back, where Mazurek led with a personal best of 1:09.73, and in the 100 Breast, where Vander Heide finished second. In the diving events, senior Amaya Wiseman placed fifth with 250.95 points, while junior Maddi Kline and freshman Madeline Vink finished sixth and seventh, respectively. With numerous personal bests and season-best times, the Spring Lake girls swim team continues to build momentum as they head deeper into the season. The Lakers’ depth and talent were on full display, making their home invitational a resounding success. The Spring Lake team saw a remarkable number of personal and season-best performances during the invitational, underscoring the team's continuous improvement. In the 200 Free, seniors Rachael Brower (2:17.23) and Callie Rantanen (2:27.51) both posted personal bests, along with freshman Kalena LaRock (2:34.4) and junior Rhyan Hare (2:15.91). Junior Abigail Weis (2:45.55) and Karley Cough (3:04.04) recorded personal bests in the 200 IM, showcasing the team's depth across multiple events. The 50 Free saw several swimmers hitting new milestones, including sophomore Macy Subka (27.82), junior Lyla Quiney (34.27), and freshmen Grace Appold (37.24), Alejandra Martin Fernandez (41.21), and Vendela Anderbro (42.22). In the 100 Free, junior Alex Botbyl (59.15), freshman Charlotte Van Harken (1:06.75), and freshman Adela Maloney (1:07.8) achieved personal bests, while Rhyan Hare (1:15.68) swam a season-best in the same event. Quiney also posted a personal best in this race (1:16.48). The distance events were no different, as sophomore Bella Vandermeer (6:34.10) and freshman Grace Appold (7:57.98) set new personal records in the 500 Free. The 100 Back featured Mazurek’s personal best (1:09.73), and the 100 Breast saw Rantanen (1:23.72) and Anderbro (1:55.58) achieve new personal marks. Additionally, Bella Vandermeer notched a season-best in the 100 Breast (1:27.38). The Lakers' success was highlighted across the sprint and relay events, but it was their individual progress that stood out, making this invitational a testament to their dedication and hard work. This collection of personal bests not only contributed to their victory but also reflects the growth and resilience of the athletes throughout the season. As the team continues to break their own records, they are building momentum for a promising remainder of the season.
