The Spring Lake varsity girls golf team triumphed in a thrilling finish at the 2024 Russ Johnsen Invitational, edging out Lowell by just two strokes to claim the championship at Cedar Chase Golf Club. The Lakers demonstrated resilience and consistency throughout the tournament, with strong performances from their lineup securing the narrow but well-deserved victory. Leading the way once again was senior standout Zoe Dull, who shot an impressive even-par round of 72 to claim the top individual spot. Dull's commanding performance on the course was crucial in maintaining Spring Lake’s competitive edge over a talented Lowell team. Her precise ball striking and calm under pressure were key factors in the Lakers’ victory. Backing up Dull’s stellar performance were juniors Finlay Cousineau and Casey Ireland, both of whom posted solid rounds of 89 (+17), tying for 10th place overall. Their steady play provided critical support in securing the team’s overall score. Sophomore Reagan Bennett added to the Lakers' success, finishing in 15th place with a round of 91 (+19), continuing her consistent contributions to the team’s strong season. Junior Anna Bonney followed with a 104 (+32), while fellow junior Ellie Cavalier rounded out the Lakers' scores with a 113 (+41). The victory at Cedar Chase Golf Club was a hard-fought win, with Spring Lake’s depth proving to be the difference. Each player's contribution, from Dull’s top finish to the rest of the lineup’s solid performances, helped secure the team’s triumph by two strokes over a competitive field. This win at the Russ Johnsen Invitational adds another accolade to Spring Lake’s already impressive season, as they continue to assert themselves as one of the strongest teams in the region. The Lakers' ability to perform under pressure and their balanced team effort will be key as they head into the latter part of the season with their eyes set on further success.
