Boys Cross Country finishes 7th in 42nd Bredeweg Invitational

The Spring Lake High School boys cross country team secured a 7th-place finish at the 42nd annual West Ottawa Bredeweg Invitational, which featured 18 competitive schools. Leading the charge for Spring Lake was senior Parker Woodwyk, who finished 6th overall with a season-best time of 16:39.02. His impressive effort set the pace for the Lakers, as they battled through a crowded and talented field. Fellow runner Lukus Mendoza, a junior, also recorded a season record, placing 38th with a time of 17:47.74. Senior Nathan Koches crossed the line in 44th at 17:55.34, while senior Christopher Locke finished 51st with a time of 18:06.83. Rounding out the team’s top five scorers was freshman Isaac Vandlen, who placed 66th with a time of 18:27.34, showcasing promise for the future. Senior Isaac Primm and freshman Griffin Wenta completed the team’s lineup, finishing 76th and 81st, respectively. The team’s collective effort and season-best performances from Woodwyk and Mendoza helped them stand out in the competitive field, reflecting their steady improvement as they look forward to future meets. In the reserve race, Spring Lake saw a series of standout performances, including several personal and season records. Junior Cameron Braidwood led the team with a 14th-place finish, clocking an all-time personal record of 19:11.26. Freshman Logan Franklyn followed closely behind, setting his personal record at 19:21.71 to finish 19th. Junior Jayden Quist came in 21st with a time of 19:37.23, while Levi Vanderlaan, also a junior, secured a season-best 19:51.82 to place 25th. Freshman Ethan Kamp continued the string of strong performances, achieving a personal best of 19:59.17 for 28th place. Other notable results came from senior Garrett Abel and Jack Pummill, who recorded season-best times of 20:16.30 and 20:20.93, finishing 34th and 37th, respectively. Freshman Byron Nevins set a personal record of 20:23.50 to place 38th, while sophomore Greysen Miltgen clocked a season record of 20:29.45 for 41st. Additional highlights included personal records from sophomores Hunter Stark (23:21.50) and Liam Lockard (24:14.23), capping off a day of impressive performances from both the varsity and reserve teams.
