Boys Cross Country begins season at Benzie Central High School

The Spring Lake High School boys cross country team made a strong showing at the Benzie High School Pete Moss Invitational, finishing seventh in the highly competitive Big School division. Leading the Lakers was Parker Woodwyk, who completed the 5K course in an impressive 16:47.1, setting a new season record and finishing 22nd overall. Nathan Koches also turned in a solid performance, crossing the line in 17:34.2, another season record for the Lakers. Several runners achieved personal bests, demonstrating the team's depth and potential. Christopher Locke finished 51st with a personal record time of 17:53.0, while Isaac Vandlen set a new personal record of 18:06.3, placing 56th. Isaac Primm, Owen Adams, and Griffin Wenta also contributed strong performances, with Wenta recording a personal best of 18:42.8. Rounding out the top nine, Ryder Woodwyk and Logan Franklyn delivered notable times of 19:19.9 and 19:58.5, respectively, with Franklyn achieving a personal best. The team’s performance at this early-season meet reflects their promising form and sets a positive tone as they look forward to the remainder of the season. In addition to the varsity team's performance, the Spring Lake boys cross country team also saw notable achievements in the junior varsity race at the Benzie High School Pete Moss Invitational. Jayden Quist and Liam Tiles both set impressive personal records, with Quist finishing in 18:55.4 and Tiles crossing the line in 19:03.8. Byron Nevins also made significant strides, recording a personal best of 20:28.0. Cameron Braidwood and Levi Vanderlaan achieved new season records, finishing in 19:42.9 and 20:21.0, respectively. The personal and season records set by these runners underscore their dedication and growth, adding depth to the team and reflecting their hard work in training. Their performances are a promising indicator of their potential for the season ahead and highlight the strength and future prospects of Spring Lake's cross country program.
