Girls Cross Country season off to fast start at Pete Moss Invitational

In their season opener at the Benzie High School Pete Moss Invitational, the Spring Lake girls cross country team delivered a commendable performance, finishing in sixth place in the Big School division. The meet showcased the team's depth and competitive spirit, with several standout individual performances contributing to the overall team result. Leading the Lakers was Alexis Kotkowicz, who crossed the finish line in 20:04.1, securing 22nd place and setting a new season record. Meghan Guczwa closely followed with a time of 20:14.4, also a season record, placing 26th. The team’s strong showing continued with Kaleigh Clark setting a personal record of 20:59.2, finishing 39th, while Cora Parker set an all-time personal best of 21:10.6, coming in 47th. Lexie Ruffing, Bethany Zimmerman, and Kaitlyn Zonca rounded out the team's top seven, all recording new season records. Notably, Briella Kohley and Shannon Losee achieved personal bests with times of 21:58.1 and 22:23.0, respectively. Lydia Recor completed the team's lineup, finishing 85th with a time of 23:29.8. The Lakers' solid debut reflects their readiness for the season ahead and highlights their potential for future success. In addition to their strong performance in the varsity race, the Spring Lake girls cross country team also showcased impressive results in the junior varsity race at the Benzie High School Pete Moss Invitational. Notably, Katie Olsen achieved a personal record with a time of 25:00.5, and Maya Overway set a new season record at 25:01.4. Madeline Vink and Julia Klein also recorded personal bests, finishing in 25:40.3 and 26:36.6, respectively. Avery Kuhlman and MiAnna Gennette further distinguished themselves with personal records of 26:50.8 and 27:29.0. Additionally, Lucy DeBoer, Abby Geyer, Violet Belanger, Magnolia Weiss, and several others made significant strides, each setting personal records that underscore their growth and potential for the remainder of the season. The junior varsity team's performance not only reflects their individual progress but also highlights the depth and future promise of the Spring Lake cross country program.
