In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, the Spring Lake High School girls swimming and diving team had a standout performance at the league opening duals meet. The Lakers dominated most of their matchups, decisively defeating Mona Shores 142-39, Unity Christian 96-90, Holland 138-43, Hamilton 103-83, and Grand Rapids Christian 94-92. The only setback came against Holland Christian, where they fell just short with a final score of 87-99. Despite this narrow loss, the team’s overall performance was a testament to their strength and preparation heading into the season. The meet was particularly notable for the team’s achievement in relay events, with the 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay, and 400 Free Relay all securing state qualifying times. Individually, standout performances came from Junior Ellie Adams, who qualified in the 200 IM and 100 Backstroke; Senior Hannah Brown, who made the cut in the 50 Free and 100 Free; and Senior Sadie Vander Heide, who achieved a state qualifying time in the 100 Breaststroke. These impressive results reflect the Lakers' depth and talent, setting a strong foundation for the rest of the season and highlighting their potential for state-level competition.
