In a battle of state ranked teams, Spring Lake #14 in D2 and North Muskegon #5 in D3, the Spring Lake Lakers defeated the North Muskegon Norseman 9-5 under the lights at Marsh Field. North Muskegon took a 2-0 lead after one inning and then the turning point of the game occurred..... with North Muskegon leading 2-0 in the top of the second the Norseman had bases loaded and no one out with a chance to break the game wide open, but...Spring Lake turned a triple play! A fly ball to right field was caught by Mason Roll (one out) who threw home to catcher Owen Smies who tagged out the runner who tagged up from third and tried score (2 outs) and then the runner on first tried to advance to second base and catcher Owen Smies threw to shortstop Zach Schlepp who applied the tag for the third out! The Lakers used that momentum to score two runs and tie the game the very next inning and proceeded to outscore North Muskegon seven to three the rest of the way. Zane Stahl, Zach Schlepp and Will May each had two hits and each player also scored two runs, while Stahl and May each added two RBI's. Jaden Core doubled and scored two runs while Schlepp also touched Homeplate twice. Will May came in relief in the second inning and pitched 6 innings giving up 3 runs and striking out 7 for the win. "What a special opportunity to play such a quality team like North Muskegon under the lights at historic Marsh Field. Walt Gawkowski and his crew do such a great job hosting this event every Friday night for High school teams and we are honored to be a part of it. Fans saw some exciting baseball tonight"
