The Spring Lake Lakers defeated the 22-0 undefeated #2 state ranked team in division 2, Whitehall Vikings 73-61 in overtime. A very physical and close game throughout the Vikings missed a shot at the end of regulation sending the game into overtime. Tied 53-53 with two minutes left in overtime, Jaden Core had a steal and lay up to put the Lakers ahead 55-53, Wren Dephouse stole the ensuing long inbounds pass and was fouled making both free throws giving Spring Lake a lead they would never lose. With Whitehall needing to foul from that point on, the Lakers were 18-20 from the free-throw line in overtime and 27-31 for the game. Karson George was 14-14 from the free-throw line in overtime. Zach Schlepp led the Spring Lake offense with 22 points followed by George who had 21 and Eli Morrison added 12. Coach Core credited Colin Burt and Reid Grimmer with an outstanding defensive effort on Whitehall all-stater Cam Thompson. The Lakers will now advance to the District Championship game Friday March 1 at 7:00 vs the Fruitport Trojans.
