Spring Lake Girls Varsity vs ZEELAND WEST (29 - 27) Win Spring Lake hosted Zeeland West for their final regular season game and came on top 29-27 in a hard-fought defensive battle. The Lakers got leads of 5 and 6 points several times throughout the first three quarters but just could not break away from the Dux. The Lakers took a 22-21 lead into the 4th quarter only to watch Zeeland West go on a 6-1 run and take a 27-23 lead with 2:40 left in the game. A basket by Alexa Carter and a basket by Brooke Bolthouse tied the game at 27 all with 1:30 left. With 15 seconds left, a SL turnover led to a Zeeland West missed layup in transition. Ella Andree got the loose rebound and threw forward to Breanna Kirby for a fastbreak layup with 3.4 seconds left to seal the 29-27 victory. Spring Lake was led by Alexa Carter with 12 points, Ella Andree added 8 points, while Brooke Bolthouse had 6 points. Zeeland West finished the regular season 12-10 overall and were led by Tessa Rindfliesch with 10 points. Spring Lake finishes the regular season 15-6 overall and will head into the District 41 tournament at Fruitport next week. The Lakers received the #1 seed and a first round bye. They will play the winner of Whitehall/Oakridge on Wednesday, March 6 at 5:30 PM.
