The Spring Lake Lakers could not hold on to a 3-0 lead as the Zeeland East Chix stormed back with 6 runs in the last two innings to take game one of the OK Black doubleheader 6-3. Owen Smies drove in all three Laker runs with a third inning three run homer, but those would be the only runs the home team would get. Oliver Smies took the loss allowing 5 runs and striking out 8. Mason Troyer had three hits and Peter May added two hits in the loss. Spring Lake would bounce back in game two of the doubleheader with their own comeback win. Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the 5th inning the Lakers would explode scoring 5 runs and hold on for a 7-4 victory. Alex Strauss was the winning pitcher, while Peter May got the save striking out 4 in two innings of relief. Oliver Smies, Owen Smies, Maddux Kipling and Mason Troyer each had two hits for Spring Lake. Alex Strauss and Rian Bates each had big RBI singles in the five run 5th inning. In the game Owen Smies collected his 100th career hit.
