Varsity vs COVENANT CHRISTIAN HIGH SCH (38 - 50) Loss The Spring Lake Lakers batted toe-to-toe with undefeated Covenant Christian Chargers before falling in OT, 50-38, in a hard-fought road matchup. Both teams came out strong in the opening quarter, trading baskets and intensity, finishing the first tied 11-11. Covenant Christian found a little separation in the second quarter, using a run to take a 21-15 lead into halftime. The Lakers responded with tremendous defensive intensity coming out of the break. They locked in, earned key stops, and converted on the offensive end to win the third quarter 13-7, evening the score at 28-28 heading into the fourth. The final quarter was a battle. Covenant Christian jumped out to an early six point lead, but Spring Lake refused to back down. In the closing seconds of regulation, Alex Botbyl attacked the rim, finished a layup through contact, and calmly knocked down the free throw with 0.9 seconds remaining to tie the game and force overtime. In the extra period, Covenant Christian capitalized on a few costly turnovers, scoring six quick points to gain control. The Lakers struggled to find the bottom of the net and were forced to foul late. Covenant Christian converted at the FT line to extend the lead and secure the win. Although the result wasn't what Spring Lake hoped for, the Lakers showed toughness, resilience, and heart - taking an undefeated team down to the wire. While disappointed, this group continues to grow though challenges and will be stronger because of it. Leading scorer of the night was Alex Botbyl with 14 points followed by Kloe George with 13 points.
