Varsity vs ZEELAND WEST HIGH SCHOOL (40 - 37) Win Spring Lake Earns Gritty Road Win Over Zeeland West In a tightly contested matchup from start to finish, the Spring Lake Lakers battled their way to a determined 40–37 road victory over the Zeeland West Dux on Friday night. The game was a back‑and‑forth struggle throughout, with neither team able to create much separation. Zeeland West struck first, taking the opening quarter, but the Lakers responded with composure and persistence, pulling even by halftime. Spring Lake controlled much of the second half, yet the drama peaked late in the fourth quarter when the Dux briefly reclaimed a one‑point lead. The Lakers answered immediately. With confidence and poise, Baylee Andree buried a critical three-pointer to put Spring Lake back on top. Moments later, Kloe George added a clutch free throw, extending the lead to three and securing the conference win. George led all scorers with 14 points, while Andree and Alex Botbyl each contributed 7. Off the bench, Tessa Weber gave the Lakers a valuable spark with 6 points. Spring Lake’s defensive intensity remained constant for the full 32 minutes, helping shut down Zeeland West’s late pushes. Coach Cori Geoghan praised her team’s composure under pressure: “I am really proud of these players. We had to handle the pressure from Zeeland West all night. In the final moments of the game we executed the game plan and secured a big conference win.” With another road victory secured, the Lakers now look ahead to a two‑game home stand next week, hosting Holland on Tuesday and Grand Rapids West Catholic on Friday.
